March 14 is Pi Day. Let's celebrate!

Pi Day is a good excuse to indulge in both math and mouthwatering treats. Why choose between pi and pie? While mathematicians revel in the beauty of 3.14159, many of us happily "round up" to a delicious slice of apple, cherry or even pizza pie. Whether you're memorizing digits or enjoying a flaky crust, Pi Day proves that math can be as sweet as it is infinite. So let's grab a fork and a calculator. It's time to celebrate.
What is pi? Written as the Greek letter for p, or π, it is the ratio of the circumference of any circle to the diameter of that circle. Regardless of the circle's size, this ratio will always equal pi.
I'm a numbers person and a pie guy! I was fascinated by the stock market growing up, and loved pulling the stock section out of the newspaper with its multiple rows and columns of numbers. Baseball is still a passion and has a never-ending array of statistics to keep track of and measure success. Along with baseball goes apple pie, which is impossible to pass up, so I see it fitting that I relocated from Michigan, the second largest state producer of apples to the undisputed apple champion, Washington state.
So, if you want to calculate the circumference of a circle or you a need a great dessert while you watch a game, or you just want to celebrate Albert Einstein's birthday on 3/14 … remember π and cut yourself a slice of pie!
