Meeting Patients Where They Are: EvergreenHealth Neurosciences Expands Into Monroe
The 18-mile journey on State Route 522 from Monroe to EvergreenHealth in Kirkland takes about 23 minutes without traffic. An inconvenience, perhaps, but doable for most. But if you have a neurological condition that makes it difficult for you to travel very far afield, that trip could be painful, stressful or logistically challenging.
EvergreenHealth Neurosciences Expands to Monroe
Dr. Daniel Burdick discusses EvergreenHealth's expansion of neurosciences services into Monroe, WA.
But now, for the first time ever, neurology patients in the Monroe area can access neurological care at a convenient location close to home, thanks to a new EvergreenHealth neurosciences practice that opened on November 3, 2025.
A Community First
Patients are now able to receive care for neurological conditions including Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, headaches, seizures, essential tremor and others at a convenient location close to home.
According to Dr. Daniel Burdick , a neurologist at EvergreenHealth, patients can now receive "about 80 percent" of their care in Monroe, including counseling, diagnoses, and medication management. Advanced diagnostic testing and surgical interventions will continue to be performed in Kirkland.
By using the same system for referrals, testing and lab results as Kirkland, continuity of care is seamless between the two locations. "It's really an extension of the neurosciences practice at EvergreenHealth," Burdick said. "We're using the same physicians, providers and neurologists in Kirkland in Monroe."
A Patient-Centered Decision
So why open this new neurosciences location in Monroe? It's all about maximizing the community's access to care.
"We were seeing a lot of demand beyond what we had the capacity for," said Burdick, who now splits his time between the Kirkland and Monroe locations. And with a high number of patients traveling from the Monroe area to receive routine neurological care, the decision to expand the practice to offer care for patients where they are made perfect sense.
So far, the new practice has been a huge success.
"I think when it's easier to get care, people get more of the care that they need," Burdick said. "And particularly for neurology, where we're seeing a lot of patients who may have mobility difficulties or just trouble getting out of the house for a number of reasons. So, it's just much less of a burden on the patients and on their families if they can be seen closer to home."
Dr. Burdick grew up in a community more rural than Monroe, so he understands the need to provide these critical specialty services to all population groups. "It's very meaningful to me to be able to bring really high-quality medical care to people closer to where they live," he said, "and we're looking forward to partnering with the Monroe community to offer the care they need, where, when and how they need it."
